Children’s Faith Formation

Welcome to St. Martin’s Faith Formation!

Saint Martin
of Tours
La Mesa, California

Starting in the fall we will meet on most Sunday mornings at 8:15.  Each week’s sessions will be liturgically based and will use the scripture readings of the day as a basis for our faith sharing with the children.

All families of the Parish with children from 4 to 11 years old are welcome to register and participate in this program.  Registration will be in August and we will start in September.

Here is how the program works:

  • Parents will bring their child/ren to Parish Hall on Sunday mornings at 8:15 am and then they can join the other parents for coffee in Barry Hall prior to 9am Mass.

  • Faith Formation will begin in age appropriate groups with catechist to focus and prepare for the lessons of the readings of the day.

  • All the children will gather at 9:15am for the Liturgy of the Word from the Children’s Lectionary and discussion of the Word.

  • Parents will attend the 9 am Mass. At around 9:30 am (during the presentation of the gifts) the children will join their families in the church and celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the community.

It is our hope that this way of sharing our faith with the children of the parish will enhance their understanding and appreciation of the liturgy, scriptures and the traditions of our Catholic faith.

It will also afford parents the opportunity to participate in the first half of the Mass while their children are attending their own liturgical and catechetical sessions in the Hall. It will then bring parents and children together again for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and Holy Communion.

The Faith Formation program will take place most Sundays from September thru April.

We will be using the Lectionary based Pflaum Gospel Weeklies. Their aim is to provide complete instruction in Catholic doctrine, sacraments, commandments, and prayer – connected to the scriptures, to children’s concerns and indexed to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Everything necessary to hand on the Catholic faith with grace and beauty.

In addition there is a web site www.pflaum.com to provide parents with further resources to enrich our understanding of Catholicism.
