Relief Services to serve their communities

Will and Joan Glunt are thanked by Fr. Jim and those present for their 24 years of heading up the Food Assistance ministry here at St. Martin of Tours.

As they retire, Richard Zasueta will take over and has great plans. With help, he hopes to add a community garden here at St. Martin of Tours.

Fish tacos made right on the spot and then there was the receipe of the day from Tanzania which tasted pretty good.

Speaker: Parishioner Susan Reeder
Susan is a licensed clinical social worker, and Assessment Center Program Manager. She will discuss her work with the homeless and the services St. Vincent provides to the community on a daily basis.
 
And following the dinner and speaker there was the option to participate in the Stations of the Cross. Great lenten practice and takes less than 20 minutes as well as a good way to let the partking lot clear out.

SMA students helped serve and clean up with the dinner part of the evening.

We were able to watch a short video on just some of what Catholic Relief Services is doing with the Rice Bowl donations received as shown to the right here.

Then Chris and Julianne North talked about the amazing program they started called Build a Miracle. Video below shows one project, but also see other photos and learn more about the program at their website. We need to get on board here at St. Martins too.

began with a soup and salad dinner as shown to the left,
followed by a meditative Taize service

February 27 - St. Vincent de Paul- Speaker: Parishioner Susan Reeder

March 6 - Assisting Undocumented Children - Speaker: Parishioner Jorge Valerdi
Several thousand minors under 18 are being detained at the border when trying to cross to the US. These children are trying to reunify with their families on their own, and being exposed to dangerous situations such as: drugs and human trafficking, sexual abuse, and lack of food and water.

March 13 -

 

Detention Ministry: Redemption, Restoration and Reconciliation - Speaker: Chaplain Robert Moscato
Prison ministry offers reform to the individual heart through the power of Christ so communities become safer, victims are respected and offenders are transformed.

Children of the Immaculate Heart - Speaker: Grace Williams, Executive Director
Children of the Immaculate Heart seeks to bring hope and healing to women and children who are victims of the trafficking industry.

March 20 - Build a Miracle - Speakers: Julianne and Chris North(St. Gregory the Great Parish)
Volunteers have built over 185 homes in Mexico. Hundreds of families have had their lives changed, not only because they have a safe and secure place to live, but because they have hope.

March 27 - Taize Prayer Service.
Experience the peace of contemplative worship that incorporates music, song and silence. A very nice way to finish up your Lenten Journey.
